Grant Overview
Oklahoma's Community Peer Support for Parents initiative aims to foster connections among families with young children, particularly in rural areas. With 25% of Oklahoma's children under five living in rural areas, and 30% of rural households experiencing social isolation, the state's peer support networks can help mitigate parenting stress. Unlike Texas, Oklahoma's peer support programs will prioritize Native American communities, who face unique cultural and socioeconomic challenges. Oklahoma's Frontier County designation criteria will be used to identify areas with limited access to resources and infrastructure. Eligible applicants include community organizations, nonprofits, and tribal entities with experience in providing peer support services. Applications will be evaluated based on their understanding of Oklahoma's rural and tribal contexts, as well as their ability to facilitate community-building. Successful applicants will be required to demonstrate cultural competency and partnerships with Oklahoma's Department of Human Services. By creating peer support networks, Oklahoma can enhance the support system for families with young children and improve parenting practices. Oklahoma's unique cultural landscape will be reflected in the initiative's design and implementation.
